The Demands of Next-Generation Semiconductor Thermal Processing
In thermal oxidation, diffusion, and Low-Pressure Chemical Vapor Deposition (LPCVD) furnaces, the quartz wafer boat (or wafer carrier) is subjected to the most hostile processing conditions in microelectronics manufacturing. Exposed to continuous temperatures up to 1150°C, severe thermal ramping spikes (> 15°C/min), and corrosive precursor chemistries (including silane, ammonia, and hydrochloric acid gas), standard commercial glass immediately succumbs to thermal shock, structural distortion, or heavy metal contamination.
Zunex Quartz manufactures custom horizontal and vertical quartz boats constructed exclusively from high-purity synthetic fused silica and electro-fused natural quartz (≥ 99.995% SiO₂ purity). By strictly constraining alkali metal impurities (Lithium, Sodium, Potassium < 0.1 ppm) and transition metals (Iron, Copper, Nickel < 0.05 ppm), our wafer carriers prevent the catastrophic thermal migration of mobile ions into critical silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) lattice gates—a fatal defect mechanism that cripples transistor switching efficiency and automotive power inverter yields.
Precision Laser & CNC Slot Profiling
Wafer slippage, micro-scratching, and edge chipping are prime drivers of cleanroom yield loss. Traditional flame-cut slots often exhibit uneven micro-grooves and residual thermal hoop stresses that induce fracture propagation during rapid furnace insertion and withdrawal cycles. Zunex Quartz deploys advanced multi-axis CNC diamond grinding and non-contact CO₂ laser slotting to fabricate boat profiles with slot width tolerances held strictly within ±0.03 mm and pitch pitch-to-pitch accuracy of ±0.05 mm.
Each slot geometry—whether V-groove, contoured flat, or dual-pitch design for SEMI standard 100mm, 150mm, 200mm, and 300mm wafers—undergoes controlled chemical fire-polishing. This eliminates sub-surface micro-fractures without altering the dimensional plane, ensuring perfectly parallel wafer seating, zero thermal bridging, and minimized contact surface tension during critical diffusion runs.
